Policy Brief n° 4 outlines how a One/Planetary Health approach—which recognises the interdependence of human, animal and planetary health—can strengthen food security in the face of today’s complex challenges. Informed by experiences from the FoodCLIC city-regions of Lisbon and Barcelona, this Policy Brief urges European and national policymakers to adopt a One/Planetary approach to more effectively address the drivers of food insecurity and improve overall health outcomes.

Guidelines and tools for real-life interventions

This report presents four complementary guidelines to support the co-design, implementation, and learning from real-life interventions in the Living Labs. Each guideline defines key concepts and core requirements, and offers adaptable tools, methods, and facilitator resources. Developed through co-creation, feedback loops, and alignment with related tasks, these guidelines help Living Lab teams design intervention portfolios, run workshops and reflexive learning sessions, and prepare governance events.

SYNTHESIS OF PLANS OF THE EIGHT LIVING LABS WITH PORTFOLIOS OF REAL-LIFE INTERVENTIONS

This report presents co-design processes across the eight FoodCLIC Living Labs to develop portfolios of real-life interventions in local food environments and supply chains, following the CLIC framework. The report showcases how, through workshops and participatory methods, stakeholders—including citizens, vulnerable groups, entrepreneurs, and policy-makers—collectively defined objectives, activities, responsibilities, and monitoring frameworks tailored to local contexts.

The FoodCLIC process: Mapping & Gappingy

This video introduces the Mapping & Gapping process carried out within the FoodCLIC project across the project's Living Labs. Researchers and practitioners from Amsterdam (Léon Feenstra, Researcher at The Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) and Lisbon (Gabriela Fernandes, Project Officer at the Municipal Environmental Government Agency of Cascais and Rosario Oliveira, Researcher at the University of Lisbon) share their experiences of analysing the food system.

They describe the challenges of working across urban and rural scales, the complexity of coordinating different governance levels, and the opportunities that mapping provides for understanding food production, distribution, and consumption. The video highlights how mapping local markets, organic farming, and fish distribution contributes to building a clearer picture of city-region food systems. By showcasing reflections from researchers and local actors, the video underlines the importance of data-driven insights and cross-level collaboration in designing shorter, more sustainable food chains.
